Sarah arrives tomorrow! Terribly excited! Our first visitor.  Wahooooo! Unfortunately elections are taking place this weekend and they have lots of screwy rules set around town. Boo. But who are we kidding? There's no stopping the radical power of vampires.  Suck it.

Ravenous in Roppongi?

You've walked the Meiji Jingu gardens, shopped the Prada Building, lunched in Ginza, gazed at the fashionable youth in Harajuku and gone gaga in Shibuya...

Now, it's time for the ultimate Japanese dive, inspired by none other than Japanese film legend, Toshiro Mifune.  Having starred in sixteen of Akira Kurosawa's most memorable films, Mifune upheld a single philosophy throughout his extensively cool career, "simplicity, honor and bravery." This sentiment is spiritedly maintained by his family at their fantastic restaurant in Tokyo, MIFUNE.  Kushiyaki is the specialty of the restaurant; a true testament to Japanese traditionalism.

Mifune is simple and amazing.  The vibe is cool and clam.  Old school Japanese decor.  Shoes removed.  Sake ordered.  Pork belly kushiyaki is to die for.  Service is impeccable.  Food is dreamy, dreamy, dreamy.

Stella Boots Pt. 1

The inspiration...



Who: Ruth, the boot maker and artist of all things leather
What: Custom made boots to fit like none other
When: First meeting, one week ago. We discussed design and leather color and texture. I will return once more for a fitting and will have my finished boots in about a month.
Where: Somewhere near the embassy, Bogota, Colombia
Why: Because if I had purchased these boots from J.Crew I would have to shell out nearly $600 and the fit would be off. Stella's custom made boots will be less than a third of the cost will finally fit like a proper boot should...perfectly!

Brazzaville Here We Come...My New Best Friends

Oh golly! Just found this exquisite book, Gentlemen of Bacongo, by photographer, Daniele Tamgni. A gorgeous expression of artistry, by both Tamgni and his subjects, The Sapeurs. I can't believe we will be living there. I hope you can spare a moment do a bit of reading about these fascinating men of the congo. The Sapeurs today belong to Le SAPE; an acronym for the movement itself, Société des Ambianceurs et Persons Élégants. I'm sure it's no coincidence that the word sape also means “to dress with elegance and style” in French. Members not only remain resolutely faithful to the church of high fashion and it's designers, but have their own code of honor, codes of professional conduct and strict notions of morality. C'est tres cool! Can't get enough.
